MALANGREJO'S MERTI BHUMI

Friday, August 21st, 2015
19.00 – 22.00        : Taking Holy Water
The holy water will be taken from three of the oldest wells in each hamlet in Malangrejo, namely Sono, Malangrejo, and Nglarang. The holy water will be used for watering the trees that will be planted during the carnival.

Saturday, August 22nd , 2015
08.00 – 12.00        : Kenduri
Kenduri is tradition of banquet food to commemorate an event that is done jointly. The guests sat around the food that is served then praying it together. Then after the event is over, the food is taken home by the guests.

13.00 – 15.00        : Kirab
Kirab is carnival or parade. It will feature a procession of people dressed in accordance with their respective background and also there will be ‘gunungan’, i.e. mountains of vegetables and fruits that will be chased by the citizens at the end of the parade. The parade will walk around Malangrejo. Then, it will be ended with the planting of trees namely teak, resin, and jackfruit.

15.30 – 17.30        : Performing Art I
In this performing art, there will be performance of Malangrejo’s culture, such as Badui and Jathilan. Badui dance is one of traditional dance bringing a story about war. It symbolizes a group of soldier in training. Jathilan is a dramatical dance tells story about a war between two hussars. Sometimes, it is brought based on some Javanese legendary story (Babad Tanah Jawi) such as cerita Panji, Arya Penangsang, Majapahit story, and many more. 

19.30 – 21.30         : Performing Art II
In this performing art II there will be art and music performance from children, teenagers, and elder.

22.00 – 03.00        : Kethoprak
Ketoprak is a traditional drama performed by a group of art and displayed in a scene by taking a historical story or fairy tale punctuated by buffoonery and songs accompanied by traditional musical instruments of Java.
